The Oakland Running Festival 3-28-10

oakland running festival

This morning was the inaugural Oakland Running Festival, and we led the 2:15 pace group (half marathon).  We have two pages of pictures (page one) and (page two) ,  with Mike expected to randomly grab pictures and write a quick note about some of our adventures today.

The crowds were out in force along the route today, especially towards the end of the race around Lake Merritt.  The Oakland Police Department and event organizers did a good job making sure the streets were closed off, so we didn’t have any problems.

Already looking forward to the 2011 Oakland Running Festival!

Hi Priscilla – You did a great job holding on at the end. At the end of endurance events, it can be so difficult to get your body to listen to your will.

Because of you and everyone else with us, I am going to pace the half again next year.

    Ted,

I ran with you the entire race…laboring from mile 10 through 12.5. I want to thank you for pacing and helping me reach my goal (2:15). You were an inspiration to many.

    Awesome display of leadership.

    Hi Mo,

Thanks for the comments. You hung tough the entire run. I thought you were going to drop a few times but you stayed right in there. That was a very fun run for me/

I think I am going to organize a pace team for the half marathon next year. I will probably carry the 2:15 banner again and make it a tradition.

I got some pictures of you on the other page.

Priscilla: Glad you had fun! It was a blast to have so many friendly, cheerful (but tired) runners to chat with. You stuck with us the longest and proved to be a real warrior towards the end of the run.

Mo: Ditto what Ted said. We were picking people up left and right towards the end, and many said hello, but a couple people stuck around. It was great that we all helped motivate one another towards the end of the run.
