I want more people out and about on bikes. Hopefully, it’s done in a safe and enjoyable manner, so riders want to continue with the activity.

Wearing a bike helmet should be second nature for bike riders, kids and adults alike. Around 300,000 children head to the emergency room stemming from bike-related accidents. Even more adults were injured, with 467,000 reported cases in 2015, according to the CDC.

Under California law, everyone under the age of 18 is required to wear a helmet if riding a bike on the street or public bike trail. However, I strongly urge everyone riding a bike to wear a helmet, because accidents and incidents do occur.

Make sure the helmet sits level on your head, and adequately covers the forehead and back of the head. Need more information about how to pick the right size of a bike helmet? That’s okay, the Global Cycling Network (GCN) crew has you covered:

I’ll also include a number of resources at the end of this blog.
